Many factors influence the accuracy of a pile measurement, including toe and base errors, unit weight conversion, and limitations on pile visibility such as vegetation or equipment obstructions. If you are measuring bunkers or bins, errors in physical dimensions of the walls will also impact results.

SR Measure is accurate to within 5% of the volume of a stockpile. Using cones will increase your accuracy to within 1.6%. Read our full accuracy deep dive.

Cones are best for precise results if placed at a specific distance to avoid scaling errors. Two orange safety cones can be used to increase your accuracy to within 1.6%. Download our guide on how to use cones for detailed instructions.

The app evaluates each measurement, displaying a 3D visualization with red on surface areas that the camera did not see. The app predicts the surface for these areas and estimates a volume. Users will improve accuracy and precision of measurements by capturing as much of the pile surface as possible.

Yes. You can unlock bunker measurements with a monthly or annual paid subscription. See pricing plans for details.

A Professional subscription does not have access to sharing or downloading measurements. Users with a Business subscription can download measurement reports in the Stockpile Reports® web application. Visit the Stockpile Reports website to learn more.

Yes, you can measure in cubic feet, cubic yards, or cubic meters. The unit of measure is set in the Account tab.

No. There are dashed guidelines during the video measurement that assist you in optimal framing of the peak and the toe (top and bottom) of the pile as you walk around it. The stockpile should take up about two-thirds of the space in your camera view.

Vertical orientation is best as results are more reliable because it is easier to capture the entire pile — it helps keep the peak and toe of the pile in view.

Follow local site requirements for pedestrian safety and vehicle and equipment traffic. If a vehicle needs to pass between you and the pile while you are measuring, stop in place and keep the camera pointed at the pile in a fixed position until the vehicle passes completely. Pause both before and after the vehicle passes, then continue taking your measurement.

SR Measure's patented algorithms detect thousands of points on the stockpile surface to determine where the pile meets the ground. The app then creates a ground plane to fit the bottom of the stockpile. This ground can curve up and down to match the real-life ground level around the stockpile.

Yes, with sufficient lighting. The app does not require GPS data, making it a convenient option for indoor stockpile measurement.

The SR Measure app does not have restrictions on pile size or shape.
